A beautiful day hiking past Overmountain Shelter, Little Hump Mountain, and Hump Mountain. Again, part of one of the most scenic sections of the AT. The AT crisscrosses between NC and TN for a very long ways. But today we passed an exciting sign. Leaving NC! I still have 1 more hike to do before I have officially finished NC.

We didn't hike as far as 19E. We ended up stopping at Wilder Mine Hollow, a tent site next to a quarry. We had heard that the next shelter was not great (noisy dogs, too close to road).  We still heard noisy dogs & trucks on 19E, so I ended up popping in earplugs.  It was just the 3 of us there, with plenty of space and flat spots. It was a little less cold than the first night, but still, as soon as camp chores were done, we climbed into our sleeping bags to stay warm. I made a hot water bottle (poured boiling water into a Nalgene) for my sleeping bag. It worked well until around 1 AM. We spend a lot of time in our tents - basically going to sleep at 7 PM and waking up at 7 AM.

Meadow at Overmountain Shelter. People we met there said they had a fabulous sunrise.

Exciting sign!
