- Hike northbound on the AT from Wilder Mine Hollow Campsite to Upper Laurel Fork Tent Site
We decided to hiker bigger miles than originally planned. Hurricane Ian is coming on Friday, and we had a 14.5-mile hike planned for Friday. We all liked the idea of putting in some longer miles in order to make Friday a shorter day.
We saw some frost in the grass in the morning. So, temps were probably in the 30's. Hmm...I didn't sleep with my water filter. I hope it's okay. I'm not aware of a way to test that.
There were a number of stealth sites near the river. We tented together - but in an area which was very small, so our tents were literally touching each other. The pros - plenty of water for filtering, white noise from the river. The cons - lots of condensation in our tents due to sleeping next to the river, and the dampness makes it feel colder. Another hot water bottle night.
