Ascend Day Mountain (we did a short bushwhack to the summit on the way back)
Descend Day Mountain
Cross railroad tracks.
Cross Depot Road
Turn left on High Road.
Walk to hiker parking lot where road turns into a dirt road.
Retrace steps back to Grange Hall Road
The first part of this hike is in the woods. It wasn't particularly challenging, except for the deep wet leaves made footing slippery. On the north side of Day Mountain, there were still green ferns and green moss. An oasis of green in a brown world. The next part of this hike was a road walk in Dalton. The town has some Victorian houses and seems very hiker-friendly. We saw a number of AT signs on people's houses.
