Today I am leaving Queretaro to go to Guanajuato. But in the morning, I had free time, so I headed out to do some sketching close to my hotel. As I was sketching, a man came up to me to talk. We had a really fun conversation. I told him I didn't understand much Spanish. So, we spoke half in Spanish, half in English. He was excited to practice his English. He asked to see my sketchbook and told me he used to draw too. I told him about the urban sketching group in Queretaro, but he said he now plays guitar as a hobby. He asked if I had children. I said no. He asked why. I told him I had a dog. He asked what my dog's name is. I said Krummholz and tried to explain what it meant (it's hard enough to explain in English!). He then went on to tell me about how all women like plants and flowers. Men don't like them when they are young. Sometimes they do when they are older. He then asked if I was marred. I couldn't remember the word for boyfriend. So, I said I wasn't married, but I have a man. Ha! We went on and on for half an hour laughing away at our conversation.
In the afternoon, my friends in Queretaro drove me to Guanajuato, where we met up with 3 other sketchers from Urban Sketchers Asheville for an urban sketching workshop with Rita Sabler. So fun! My hotel is next door to the host hotel and is across the street from a beautiful, old church. In the evening, we had the first of many margarita nights on the roof of the host hotel. It looks like we have a nice group of sketchers to sketch with this week.
