We had a nice stay last night at the White Rose Boutique Hotel, and a delicious breakfast. Tara, Dian, and Phyllis are sick. I'm the only one not sick amazingly, even though we share rooms.
Most of this hike is walking on cliffs, but in the morning when we hiked out of town, we did stop by the beach. We also left the ocean for a while and walked by some fields. The Fisherman's Trail does have fishermen on it of course. They seem to always be fishing from the most precarious of places high on cliffs. Most of the time, we couldn't even figure out how they would get to where they stood.
Macs provides an app with navigation, mileage information, hotel information, etc. Mileage was confusing today. Macs had organized a 5pm taxi pickup to drive us into town. It wasn't really needed, but it would save us from some road walking. It didn't look like we'd make it, so we moved it to 6pm. Then we realized we were hiking fewer miles than we thought, and we got to our pickup spot at 4pm. More calling to the taxi company to see if they could come earlier. Eventually we cancelled our taxi and walked the distance into town that they were going to drive us. Getting taxis on this trail was not as easy as we hoped. Luckily my foot has been doing great! So much better than I expected this trip to go. However, today I was feeling shin splints. This tends to happen if I increase my mileage suddenly or if I do a lot of road walking without training for it (both of these applied to me). Earlier today, Tara was feeling really sick and tried calling a taxi from a cafe. No luck at finding someone to take her. Luckily, she was able to continue walking.
We arrived at Odexie. Our hotel was at the top of a very steep hill in town. Many, many steps. We were all quite exhausted. Our hotel was another fancy place with a Michelin restaurant. We asked about dinner, and it was way above our price range. All the other restaurants were back down the hill in town. No one was up for going back down and up the hill to eat, so we ate some of Dian's dehydrated food & leftovers. I didn't love this fancy hotel. I broke one of the buttons to flush the toilet. Had to get help. Then Phyllis broke the other button. Had to get help. Then we struggled with getting into the room. Multiple times. Had to get help. And the damn hill and lack of affordable places to eat nearby.

Most of our walk is on cliffs above the beaches. We decided to take a detour and walk down to the beach in town before continuing our hike. |
