Another warm day, so off we head to higher elevation to hike. We didn't have enough time to get all the way to Waterrock Knob, so we just hiked in 2.5 miles and turned around. I didn't look at the elevation gain ahead of time, but I think of Waterrock Knob as being high, so I thought it would be an uphill slog all the way. The trail actually had some long flat stretches on what felt like it must have been a woods road in the past. Nice! The trail was well maintained (thanks to CMC trail maintainer Jack!), and the terrain was fine. We saw a few wildflowers and a bunch of fungi. There is car noise from the BRP at the beginning of the hike, but it quickly faded. We passed by a bridge called Howard's Bridge, named after a CMC trail maintainer. Very cool. On the way back, even though I was being very careful going down some steps, I managed to step too much on the side of my shoe and took a tumble off the side of the steps and rolled a bit downhill. Nothing sprained or broken. I wish I wasn't so prone to falls. When I go for my annual exams, they always ask if you are worried about falling. Hell yes! And have you fallen in the last year. Hell yes! They ignore my answers though, lol.
