Today's hike started at Cinnamon Bay on the north side of the island, so we didn't need a taxi to start. The first mile had a lot of climbing. With 90% humidity, we were dripping sweat immediately. We had a 1-mile road walk, where we had to dodge cars. It wasn't too bad, but road walking isn't recommended here, because there are no shoulders. I just hoped that the crazy taxi driver we had previously was not on this road today! This hike passes by ruins of multiple sugar plantations. We came across a tamarind tree and were able to pick up pods from the ground. We hiked to the south side of the island (it's a small island) to Reef Beach, which was very quiet. We continued on to waterfall and freshwater pool where we saw petroglyphs. Yeah! I love petroglyphs. It was sooo hot today.  We did another road walk to Maho Beach. By the time we finished our hike at Maho Beach, we were exhausted from the heat and humidity. All of us were quiet. This is a touristy beach, so there were shacks selling food and alcohol. I had a painkiller (adult beverage), which I had heard are popular here. We had brought snorkel gear, but we were too tired to snorkel, and just ended up hanging out in the water to cool off. Since Maho Beach is a touristy area, there is a taxi waiting area, and we were able to jump on a taxi to get a ride back to Cinnamon Bay.

Tonight's lecture at our campground was on coral reef protection. It was fascinating!
