We spent our second day at Boone Hall Plantation. We went on a house tour, but there were also other tours at various times of the day. We learned about the families that lived here, the Gullah culture, and the farming that occurred there. The owner of the plantation still lives on the grounds. They had some special programming for Black History Month, so we listened to Herb Frazier and Joseph McGill talk about their book, Sleeping with the Ancestors and website: The Slave Dwelling Project - Changing the narrative... and their work on making sure that plantations tell the stories of enslaved, not just the stories of the plantation owners.
We had thought about visiting the Charles Pinckney Historic Site close by, but we ran out of time, and the building was closed for renovations.
