Carolina Mountain Club Challenges:
- 100 Favorite Trails, #60 Bracken Mountain/Brushy Creek
I was joined by Phyllis, Paul, Marie, Glen, and Krumm on a 100 Favorite Trails hike in Brevard. Phyllis, Paul, and Glen needed this for their challenge. I had hiked this on Christmas day, but Glen didn't join me, because it was really cold (high of 17 degrees and windy). It's a pleasant hike, so no problem doing it again on a warmer partly sunny day. This hike felt easy after hiking Pilot Mountain! The hike has some winter views and a mini-waterfall. At our halfway point, we extended our hike just a tiny bit to go to Burl Mountain. We were wondering if there was a view. There was an obscured winter view. We stopped for lunch which was accompanied by chocolate and macaroons. We did encounter quite a few bicyclists on the trail. Unfortunately, my heel pain is getting worse and I'm pretty sure I have plantar fasciitis. Ugh. I've had it twice before, quite a while ago. I need to be resting...which I hate to do.
After our hike, I planned a stop at Bracken Mountain Bakery. We haven't explored Brevard ever, so this was a decent excuse. The bakery has bread, cookies, coffee, and tea. I picked up a loaf of raisin bread (so yummy!) and a cup of chai. We saw a grey squirrel on our walk downtown. We are still looking for white squirrels....

Brevard plays up the white squirrel thing big-time. |
