Another beautiful hike with the Carolina Mountain Club. This is a 100 Favorite Trails hike, but also helps us on our quest to complete the NC & TN sections of the AT this year. Last year I backpacked from Carvers Gap to Overmountain Shelter. Today's hike was from Overmountain Shelter to Hump Mountain. We still need to do Hump Mountain to 19E. I had signed up for a backpacking trip of this whole section soon, but the Meetup group organizing it might be dissolving. I'm trying to figure out what's going on with it.

We missed out on hiking this past weekend - thinking it would rain. It actually barely rained all weekend. So, we were eager to get out hiking today. I love the Roan Mountain area and this hike didn't disappoint. There was a chance of rain today, so in the morning we had misty fog rolling by. The clouds helped keep it a little cooler. We still had high humidity. This hike had climbs up grassy balds. I love, love, love grassy balds!  Lovely! Lots of stops to take photos of wildflowers and views.
