Glen and I took a trip down to Fort Lauderdale, Florida to attend Glen's brother's wedding. Whenever we travel out of state, we like to look at the state high points around and see if it makes sense to do one. The Florida state high point is nowhere near Fort Lauderdale, but it's a long drive to Florida anyways, so why not add it in?  It's in a small park, just a few yards from the highway. And no, you can't tell that it's a "hill." The park has some short walking trails. But...it was 98 degrees out, and the park doesn't allow dogs, so it was a no go for us. This is our 19th state high point.

After visiting, we drove to Tallahassee. Glen really wanted to see an alligator, so we visited a state park with a lake near our hotel. The park was supposed to have really nice gardens, but no dogs allowed. And I don't think dogs were allowed on the beach of the lake. We didn't find Florida dog friendly at all. We stopped by the lake and heard a fisherman pointing out a gator to some folks. We asked him where, and he pointed it out for us. So, we got our gator sighting in.

I'm reminded that I'll never move to Florida. We saw billboards for "Machine Gun America, fun for the whole family." I thought it was a joke. It wasn't. The heat there was oppressive too, 98 degrees every day. And I miss Asheville, where dogs are allowed almost everywhere.

No photos from the wedding, but it was sweet, and of course very fun. Glen's brother had a friend from clown college who came and performed - juggling knives around the couple. Yikes!  Everyone survived :) Again, no dogs allowed at the beach in Fort Lauderdale. We stayed at a VRBO with a pool though. Krummholz (who flunked out of swimming classes at a pool) was obsessed with the pool. He didn't swim, but he spent his evenings circling the pool, staring at the water.

There's a gator swimming in the back
