Parking: Folk Art CenterrDirections: "Asheville: 35 Spectacular Hikes in the Land of the Sky" by Jennifer Pharr Davis
We were looking for a hike near Asheville where we were likely to have cell service, and found this hike. We parked at the Folk Art Center, on the Blue Ridge Parkway in east Asheville. We headed towards the building, and then turned right onto a nature trail. From there we turned off right and followed the Mountains to Sea Trail. The Mountains to Sea Trail is a 1,200 mile trail across the state of North Carolina. I hadn't heard of it before visiting the state. My interest is peaked! Not all of it is trails - it sounds like it includes a fair amount of road walking, though some people bike the road sections.
This hike has a fair amount of car noise, and in the beginning, you are hiking between two roads. There were a number of side trails - I think these just go to the road? Eventually we found the side trail that goes off to the view. The view is very nice, and others were enjoying it too. From what I've read, this is a busy trail, with many people doing it after work. We stopped and took a long break. We hiked a little beyond the view, but were running low on water, so decided to turn back.
