It was sad to leave Refuge Bonatti behind. Today was a hard day. It was supposed to be 7 hours of hiking. My legs were shot going uphill. Today's hike didn't look too bad on paper - maybe it was the altitude and just my general tiredness? We had steep climbs. We passed Refuge Elena, but I didn't stop. Glen took a rest there. I kept climbing. Sometimes I feel like its harder to get going again if I stop and rest, so I'd rather just keep climbing. Walking uphill, I was walking on my toes for a long time. That's how I judge if a trail is steep. If my heels aren't hitting the ground - it's a steep hike. We reached Col du Ferret - and have crossed over from Italy into Switzerland. I wanted to be greeted by Swiss chocolate on my arrival, but alas there was none. At the col we took a break - now the remaining hike was mostly downhill. We saw some horsepackers with 3 border collies. What lucky dogs. We saw a flock of sheep today - and a border collie occasionally moving a few. We followed the sheep who were starting to move down the trail. The shepherd and border collie just followed the sheep. I want that job! We did stop at another refuge - for a snack.

We had some road walking today & were approached by some goats. We were pretty tired at the end of the day. The town of La Fouly had a grocery store so we stopped there after dropping off our backpacks at our hotel. I took a bath after dinner to try and revive my tired muscles. Tomorrow will be an easier day.

No chocolate?

Horsepackers with their border collies

The shepherd with his dog - they didn't hike on trail

Can't remember the name of this refuge, but we stopped here for drinks and food
