Our last day! I'm tired, but I don't want it to end! The UTMB started last night at 6pm. That means the first finishers will be arriving in Chamonix around 6pm today. We passed by an aid station and took a break just past it to watch the race on streaming video. Maybe not a good idea, because it chewed up by data plan, and I ran out of data by the end of the day. But it was addicting! I've never watched an ultra marathon. I loved it! I've always wanted to be a runner, and then a trail runner, but my body doesn't want to be (I've injured myself every single time I've tried). Normally watching sports is boring, but this is one sport I can sort of relate too - since the runners are running practically the same trail we've spent 10 days hiking! They just run a lot faster than us! Luckily we didn't have any issue with crazy amounts of runners crossing our path today. By the time we got to Chamonix, only the 1st place runner had arrived. Our hotel was on the actual UTMB route, right before the finish line. The 2nd place runner finished while we were settling into our hotel. We went out afterwards and watched the 3rd place runner finish. And then the first woman - Courtney Dauwalter, who is an ultra runner legend from the United States.
