We tried hiking yesterday, but it was a disaster. I brought both dogs. I forgot dog treats. There were a ton of people on the mountain - it looks like a school group was there. That meant both dogs would need to be on leash. I put Krummholz's head halter on, but he kept on fighting it and pulling it off. We tightened it, and it made him fight even more. Tried not wearing it, and he pulled very hard. We ended up turning around. Oh dear. That was not fun. On Monday we start a new online class where we'll learn to improve our recalls and hopefully find a way for me to teach loose leash walking.
Today we tried again. I left Trek at home, and I brought a ton of dog treats. Basically when we hike in the evening, Krummholz's evening meal is dog treats. In the parking lot we heard peepers for the first time this year! Always a lovely sound. Krummholz heard them and growled. Silly boy. He fought the head halter half way up the mountain, and then settled down. The rest of the hike was lovely. I let him hike off leash on the way down - he behaved great. We were running late (which happens when I take a lot of time training on the mountain), and finished the trail in the dark. So Krumm got introduced to a little night hiking with headlamps.
