Today we tried a park we haven't been to before. It's a park with a few short trails - normally a place I wouldn't go because there aren't many miles of trails. I've signed up for a week long backpacking trip this summer. The daily mileage on the trip is small, but I figured it would be good to train for it anyways. I took out my backpacking backpack and filled it with liter bottles of water. I weighed it when we got back, and ended up with a 26 pound pack. I think I'd like to train with a 30 pound pack, so I'll stick another couple of water bottles in it next time.

We were the only car in the parking lot. The hike starts out on a gravel path and leads to an area with mulch/gravel. I think it may be used as a recycling facility (for mulch/gravel). We turned right onto the blue trail. The park does have quite a lot of car noise from the Taconic State Parkway, but I was expecting this, so it didn't bother me too much. The hike started out quite nice. The trail is easy. At times we hit swampy sections, but we've gotten so much rain, I wouldn't assume the trails are normally swampy. Partway around the trail, we started coming across blowdowns. Some we could climb under, some we had to walk around. I wanted to add in a loop for the red trail to get a tiny bit more mileage in, but we immediately hit an impassible blowdown. We returned to the blue trail and finished the loop. More blowdowns towards the end. I wouldn't bother coming back to this park - the trails are nice enough, but they need a lot of trail maintenance.

Our hike was slow today. We left Trek at home to rest, and just had Krummholz. He was more focused on sniffing and chewing on sticks than hiking. We stopped frequently and let him enjoy himself. Near the end of the hike, we put Krummholz on a 30 foot long line and practiced recalling him back and forth between us. I would tug with him, and Glen gave him treats and petting. .

Krummholz loves to roll

He doesn't like to get his feet wet. He spent some time trying to figure out how to avoid getting wet.

Red trail was unpassable

Blue trail had a fair number of major blowdowns as well
