Our trail maintenance supervisor contacted us, and let us know that there was a mix up with our trail assignment, and that we'd be getting a different trail to maintain. So, we are taking on a portion of the Suffern Bear Mountain trail. We met up with our supervisor and set out to our trail. He and I discussed our summer hiking trips and compared notes. I love talking about hiking vacations!
We left Trek at home, so we could focus on our job. We spent our time painting blazes and trimming ferns and blueberry bushes and overhanging branches. Trimming the brush was hard work, as we were bending over. My back was aching by the time we finished. Our supervisor on the other hand seemed to have no problem! He's much faster than us at whacking those plants. Even though our section is small, we didn't finish it. We broke a pair of loppers. We decided we'd come back again in the fall and work on our trail some more. Our hope is that next year we'll have less work to do since we did so much trimming today. We met a large Asian hiking group who stopped and asked us lots of questions. It's always nice when people appreciate the work you do.
