The air quality in Bend was unhealthy yet again this morning. The air quality was better just 30 minutes north. By the end of our trip, I decided that Bend seems to collect smoke more than neighboring areas!

We headed to Smith Rock. Trek was born just outside the park, so it was cool to see where he came from. We hiked the Perimeter trail. This park attracts a lot of rock climbers - we had fun watching them for a while. We read that there can be river otters here. We looked, but never saw any. We did see some brown lizards. The trail was pretty busy, especially closer to the visitor center. The park reminds me somewhat of Joshua Tree, though this place has a river and doesn't have Joshua trees. Just the desert feel of the place. The trails here are smooth dirt. Oregon trails are so nice! This hike had some really nice views. Sun exposure was pretty constant, so it was hot when the sun was out. It probably would be a miserable summer hike when its hot, but a great place to go in the winter.
