We didn't really have any hiking plans today, so got going late. We didn't have time to do a longer hike, so chose a short hike, with a long drive. I know most people wouldn't drive as far as we did for a 4.4-mile hike! But in the end, it will probably save us a night at a hotel, because it might be a bit far for a 13-mile day. Plus, it was hot, so would have been tiring for a long hike.
So, we headed north and did a short section. This section follows a lake for around 2-miles, I think. Krummholz was very, very excited. We thought about letting him swim at the start, near a beachy swimming area, but waited until we were further in. We found the perfect spot in the woods that was more secluded. He was so happy! He didn't want to leave!
The first half of this hike was very easy. After a paved section of the trail, the trail got more rocky and rooty and had more climbing. Still, an easier hike. The highlights of this hike were dog swimming & a section that was full of larkspur. I liked this section a lot more than I was expecting. The swimming made it perfect.
