I forgot to mention, the drive to Walhalla, South Carolina is really pretty. We drove by Table Rock (wow!) and several other hiking areas. Lots more to explore down there. Spy Rock Road is a gravel road, but it's in good condition (in both directions)- no ruts. Parking is on the shoulder of the road, enough for a handful of cars. This waterfall is probably less crowded due to the drive. There were a couple of cars there when we arrived. We walked down the dirt primitive road. Theoretically you could drive on it, but you would need a very, very high clearance vehicle. The road ended at a parking area (no cars here). From there, there is a sign for the trail to the falls. The trail is well maintained and an easy hike - in much better condition than the road walk. The trail takes you to the falls. The falls are very wide and have a long sand beach. There are shells in the sand, lol. Obviously somehow driven in. The falls are beautiful, and the beach has driftwood, so it's a great place to sit. Krummholz said it would be a great place to swim, but it was cold. He is very serious about his water - he wanted us to throw sticks for him, but we wouldn't. This was my favorite of the 3 falls we visited today.
