It was a very hot day in Asheville, but no rain and no thunderstorms. This month we've frequently had a chance of afternoon/evening thunderstorms. Since it was so hot, we headed north on the Blue Ridge Parkway to hike along the MST. It was still very humid, but the temperatures are much cooler up there. It seems that people are stealing the overlook signs on the Blue Ridge Parkway, so we checked our Gaia GPS app to make sure we were at the correct parking area. From the parking area, we headed south on the MST. The trail goes for a short ways and quickly crosses the Blue Ridge Parkway. After a short while on the other side, the trail continues on a paved road. At this point the trail on Gaia doesn't match the blazes. The paved road switchbacks down and ends, turning into trail again. The trail was rocky, and my ankle was aggravated every time a rock moved under my foot. I'm heading back to the doctor to see why my ankle pain started up again. I've been pain free for a while until just recently. Closer to the Douglas Falls trail, we observed some obvious trail maintenance, where the trail had been widened and was less rocky. Nice work! We turned around at the Douglas Falls trail, where we had previously hiked to on a trail maintenance trip. This hike had a lot of flowers! I normally think of trails having more flowers in the spring, but we saw loads of flowers on this hike. I downloaded the iNaturalist app in order to help identify plants in this area.
