We joined the Carolina Mountain Club for a hike on the Mountain to Sea Trail. This partially overlapped a section we had already done. The trip leader, Carroll is 91 years old and leading hikes! Holy cow! I must keep hiking, and never stop! He was doing great!

This was an easy, relaxed pace hike. My surgery ankle is having pain again, not sure what is going on. I'm working on getting an appointment with an orthopedic surgeon in this area to see if I need my hardware removed. This is a time when I wish I was back in NY, so I could see my original surgeon. Moving is stressful, and getting all new doctors is one of the things that causes me stress.

So today's hike was good, as it was short, and at an easy pace for me. I served as the sweep, which let me hike at an even more relaxed pace. Having a 91 year old trip leader, also gives me more confidence that I'll be able to lead hikes in the future, despite being a slower hiker.

This hike had some different flowers than I've seen before. The orange flowers are Turk's Cap Lily. The white flowers, I assume are monarda, though I've never seen it in white. I'm interested in learning about all of the native trees and flowers in this area. We did have some views at a couple of the overlook parking lots, but everything is hazy. From what we've read, smoke from the California wildfires is now causing haze in our area.
