We like to visit state high points, and Asheville is very close to the NC state high point. This is our 18th state high point. We had some things to do in the morning, but had enough time to visit in the afternoon. The hike is off of the Blue Ridge Parkway. Last time we visited Asheville was in the winter, the parkway was closed. So, it isn't a place you can visit year round. The road to the summit is long and twisty. I could feel the pressure in my ears as we ascended. This peak is higher than the altitude in Denver Colorado! I loved seeing how the trees changed as we climbed up in our car. There are hiking trails up here, which we'll need to check out another time.
