In general, I think Krummholz is going to spend most of his hiking life on leash. But, I'm trying to figure out how to make this safer for me. The past few hikes, the trails have been very narrow and overgrown. I worked on having him hike behind me on leash. He was very good about this, except for banging the pack into my left knee every step. This isn't the best. Today I knew it was unlikely we'd see anyone, so I let him hike off leash most of the time. He hiked right behind me again (which I like), but was continuing to bump the back of my leg. I use an "okay" to release him to hike in front of me. When he hikes in front though, he runs with abandon, and I'm not happy with how far away he gets. So back behind me (still off leash) he goes. I find it humorous how quickly he learned to just walk behind me. On the rare occasion we see someone, I just ask him to sit, and put a leash on him.
Fascinated by a puddle in the parking lot |
We can't keep him out of the water now. |
He didn't want to get out of this skanky beaver pond |
