It was raining when we woke up, but the weather improved. We stopped off at the Hanover Coop on our way to our hike and picked up snacks. We came up with a shorter hike today, so had more time to sleep in a little and go out for food. We started at Three Mile Road, where there was a small parking area off the side of a good dirt road. There were tons of mosquitoes today. It was driving me batty. I was trying to swat them and my trekking poles were flying around when I did so. Oh yeah - we ended up both buying a pair of trekking poles last night at EMS since we left ours at home. We've decided we need to store trekking poles in BOTH our cars, so we are always prepared! Glen bought a pair of spare trekking poles last year in Vermont too. This is insane! We have a couple of harder hikes coming up, so we knew we'd really want them.

Anyways, I finally gave in and used some of Glen's deet. That helped, but the mosquitoes were still landing on me. There was a constant buzzing around my ears. All day long. I tried to keep moving, as this helps a bit. I used my headnet (forgot to bring a hat which makes wearing a headnet more tolerable). I didn't stop to pee or eat, because when you stop you get bitten. On the bright side, I was happy to have trekking poles! Today's hike was mostly easy. The only steep part was near Velvet Rocks, heading downhill.

We considered looking for an additional short section to add to today's hike. But by the time we got to our car, I didn't want hike any longer. I just wanted to sit in the car and be in a bug free zone!

We finished our AT hiking for this trip, and drove to Waterbury, Vermont. I remember eating and a restaurant in Stowe years ago - the Bees Knees. I had always wanted to figure out how to incorporate that into a dog's name, as I love that phrase. Anyways, the restaurant is out of business :( We ended up going to Mint, a vegetarian restaurant in Waitsfield, VT. It was on the expensive side. Glen had a really delicious soup - my entrée didn't appeal to me.
