NJ Appalachian Trail - Section 3 - NJ 23 to brook past High Point Shelter

Rest rooms: None

Parking: NJ 23 just south of the park headquarters. Sign along the road for Appalachian Trail parking lot. Room for around 20 cars.


Hike directions:
Start at the back corner of the parking lot where there is a kiosk.
Hike a short ways towards some picnic tables, where you'll see a blue blazed trail turning to the right.
Follow the blue blazed trail (Iris Trail?) to where it intersects with the AT.
Turn right (northbound) onto the AT.
Cross Route 23 (park office will be on your left).
Reach a sturdy wooden observation platform that you can climb up for a better view of High Point.
Pass red & green blazed Monument Trail (nice possible side trip).
Pass sign for High Point Shelter (to the right).
Continue to brook which is above a steep ravine.

Hike description:
Late start today meant a short hike.
Moderate hike.
Rocky terrain.
Several nice views approaching High Point monument.
Only 1 road crossing (Route 23). 
Looking back at a sign for the Iris Trail, at intersection with AT.
