- There are multiple trails starting from this trailhead. Take the Old Crater Rim Drive (paved road) to the end. There are two overlooks. Return the same way.
This is the third hike we did from the Devastation Trailhead. This one is a hike along Old Crater Rim Drive. The road is closed to traffic. Why? There used to be a ring road that went all the way around the active crater. In 2018, the road got destroyed during an earthquake. They turned this portion of the road into a hike to a viewing point where you can look down into the crater. It's actually a super place to do a night hike to watch an eruption.
