I was excited to do a hike in Mexico. This town and its monolith are a popular tourist attraction for those in Queretaro. I believe it was around a 1-hour drive from El Centro. Although the temperature was only 64 degrees, this hike is strenuous and in full sun. I had some hot tea, but I purchased water before going up. Not enough water. I was huffing and puffing going up (as was everyone else). Every time there was a sliver of shade, I'd stop there to cool off. The terrain is rocky - not rock scrambling, but very steep. I was almost ready to be done, when I reached the end. There was a locked fence blocking the rest of the way up. My friends said to reach the top of the monolith, you have to do rock climbing. I'm not sure if there are other routes up. I drove there with 3 people. 2 waited at the base, and 1 only went 1/2 way up.
Walking through town after our hike, we stopped at a street food vendor selling marinated corn. We sampled a few and I chose a spicy one. One option was corn with crickets.
