We headed out to Dupont for a Christmas Day hike. Two days after taking a couple of flights, I caught a cold. So unfortunately, I am very low energy today but still wanted to get out. We took easy trails. There were a fair number of people out on the trails, but they weren't crowded. Mostly mountain bikers, fewer hikers. Gorgeous warm day with temps in the 60's

Excited to be getting out

Starting out on Hickory Mountain Road

Hickory Mountain Road

This used to be called White Pine Road.

We returned at the end of our hike to hike this trail.

The end of Hickory Mountain Road. We turned left onto the Ridgeline Trail.

Heading down the Ridgeline Trail.

We hiked a short way on the Ridgeline Trail. This trail goes to the Lake Imaging parking lot.

Turning left onto Hooker Creek Trail.

Hooker Creek Trail

Gaia shows the Hooker Creek Trail going to the right and an unknown trail to the left.
In reality, Hooker Creek Trail goes to the left.
The trail to the right looks like it's been decommissioned.

We tried walking a short way on the decommissioned trail and then turned back.
Our paper map doesn't show this split.

Back on Hooker Creek Trail.

Neither Gaia nor our paper map shows this.
The trail splits, making it one way in each direction.
Just follow the signs. They meet back up in the end.
Maybe this is to prevent mountain biker/hiker conflicts?

Our way was more of a wooded trail, less of a mountain bike track.

A pretty re-route.

Gai shows us hiking parallel to the orignal trail.

Where the trails meet back together.

This is where we came from - a one way trail.

At the end of Hooker Creek Trail, our paper map shows White Pine Road going to the left and right.
In reality....
White Pine Trail to the left has been renamed Ruffed Grouse Trail.
White Pine Trail to the right is a continuation of Hooker Creek Trail.
We turned right.
Our Gaia map matches the trail signs.

Taking Buck Forest Road back to Hickory Mountain Road

Turning left onto Hickory Mountain Road.
Re-walking this section.

Gaia shows this as the Guion Trail.
The sign shows this as the Boundary Trail (the first crossing).
Our paper map shows the Guion Trail a little to the east.

Passing by the first crossing with the Boundary Trail.

Turning right onto the Boundary Trail the second time it crosses
Hickory Mountain Road.

Boundary Trail

Passing the Rifle Trail.
We'll save this one for another day.
