Parking: Map:Directions:- Take the spur trail to the MST. Turn left on the MST and hike to Haw Creek Overlook. Return the same way.
This section of the MST has been a regular hike for us, but not since Hurricane Helene. Glen has been on it a handful of times since September, and this was my first time going back to it since the hurricane. Almost all of the trees on the ground have been cleared off the trail. There are several trees leaning over the trail that give me pause though. I believe the trail is officially closed, but someone from the Folk Art Center said its clear and okay to hike on. Mixed messages. I can understand why the NPS would want to keep it closed, as some of the leaning trees look precarious. Some sections of the trail don't look bad at all, and some sections are unrecognizable - from someone who has hiked this section dozens of times. We did see a fair number of people out hiking.

This is the bench where we always take a Krumm photo. The bench is destroyed, but he recognized it, and automatically jumped up on it to have his photo taken. |

A short detour on the closed Blue Ridge Parkway to get around a challenging down tree across the trail. |

Back on his bench lol. |
