Carolina Mountain Club Challenges:
- 100 Waterfall Challenge, Hunt Fish Falls
This hike has around a 30-minute drive on a rutted but drivable gravel road. If you are working on the CMC's waterfall list, you'll want to do North Harper Creek Falls in the same outing, because they are both on the same road. Parking was on the side of the gravel road. There was room for maybe 6 cars. We saw 2 other cars at the trailhead.
Now we were quite late. We had a little less than an hour before sunset, but we decided to go for it. We quickly hiked down to the waterfall. We saw two women there with a dog. They mentioned the rocks were slick, and their dog slid and fell into the water. So, we were very careful descending the rocks to the falls. This is a 2 drop falls. Apparently in the summer, people swim in the bottom pool. There is a second waterfall which we almost missed, called Hunt Fish Sidekick Falls. We had no time to look for a spot safe for dog swimming, so we hiked back uphill. This hike has a nice climb, so we got some cardio in at the end. We finished just past sunset.
