Directions:- From the parking lot, follow the main trail straight. Pass the bike path. Walk through a barn. Walk on the boardwalk. Continue past the boardwalk until you reach the prairie (the prairie was closed when we were there).
After visiting the butterflies, I went for what I thought would be a short hike before lunch. I was told this is THE place to see gators. I loved this trail so much, I spent a lot of time here, skipping lunch. Dian and Tara came and joined me later, and I hiked it a second time. This was probably my favorite hike of the trip. I saw 100+ gators. I walked by gators! And so many birds. This is a very popular place for wildlife photographers. I saw a bald eagle, herons, anhingas, egrets, hawks, osprey, pelicans, and other birds I can't identify. There are also wild horses and bison somewhere in the park, but I didn't see them. I do believe I heard a horse though.

At first, you are separated from the gators by a boardwalk |
Some were hard to see |
They like to lie on the bank of the water |
Past the boardwalk, they are along the trail |
The anhingas were my favorite bird - they dry their wings in the sun |
We got to watch a lot of birds eating fish |

This is along the side of the trail! |
