Directions:- Hike southbound on the AT
Our friend Marie joined us for our second trail outing of the year. This was her first-time doing trail maintenance. So much fun, and we so appreciated having help! She learned about lopping, root removal, clearing water bars. and removing trees. She also learned about the little things we do to make a trail aesthetically pleasing. Now that Glen has a huge saw, we are able to tackle larger trees than we used to be able to. We had 2 tough trees 3 miles in that took a lot of work to remove. It took 3 of us to push the trees off the trail after sawing them. Marie was an absolute champ and dug right into the work. We saw a bunch of early thru hikers (including a really young girl with her father), which is always fun.

Multi hour project working on this root ball in the middle of the trail. |

Root ball removed, now fixing the tread. |

Glen was able to saw off this huge root ball, but then it took the 3 of us to roll it off the trail. |

This tree was a beast. It was very hard to saw through. Multiple cuts later, we were able to push two pieces off the trail. |
