Our first trail maintenance day this year, getting ready for thru hiker season. Glen focused on tree removal. I didn't want to hike a lot of miles, so we didn't work together. I worked on root removal and lopping. We saw 3 backpackers, but I don't think any of them were thru hikers. It was a foggy and drizzly day, very peaceful and quiet on our section. We don't get a lot of flowers in our section, but we did see a few violets and spring beauties.
We also saw an unidentified "thing." Hmm. I actually saw my first one of these this past week during a waterfall hike. I thought it was a spider. It had black spotted white legs/petals. I didn't want to touch it, lol. Then I thought maybe it's a weird plastic flower that someone dropped. Well, I saw them again today. Puff balls! I squeezed and they puffed. But what are those flower petal things? The puffball/petals things were not attached to a stem. Fungi don't have petals right? Very confused.
Krumm helped with trail maintenance by packing out a wrapper we found on the trail. At the trailhead there was not 1, but 3 pairs of men's underwear. OMG. I had to pack them out. Gross. Did some thru hiker decide his underwear weighed too much and decided to ditch them? I mean, pretty much the only people who hike our section of the AT are thru hikers or section hikers....
