Carolina Mountain Club Challenges:
- Waterfall Challenge, Raven Cliff Falls
Today I lead a half day hike for the Carolina Mountain Club. The forecast was not particularly good, but I ended up with 8 out of the 10 people. We stopped at the visitor center (which has restrooms) and walked to the observation platform. Even though it was drizzly, we still got a nice view of the mountain tops in the clouds. So pretty. The sun even popped out for a couple of minutes. From there we took the short drive to the trailhead. The lot was almost empty, probably due to the weather forecast. On the hike, we saw some pretty fungi. We had some obstructed views of the mountains in the clouds. Our halfway point was the pavilion with a lookout of Raven Cliff Falls. From what I've read, the total drop of the falls is over 1,000 feet. The falls are named after the ravens that nest on the cliffs. Everyone was grateful to have a nice dry place to sit for lunch.
