We got out today to do some trail maintenance. I made sure to bring Krumm's leash this time. Our car has started navigating us up New Leicester Highway to get to our section. It was sleeting this morning, and the route took us over the mountains. UGH. It was a rather harrowing drive, as my car started sliding on the snow. I couldn't decide if I should turn around or keep going. I kept going but drove at a snail's pace. It was 22 degrees out, so I was concerned about black ice. I thought I left this kind of driving behind in NY.

We made it to Garenflo Gap, which was at a lower elevation. I knew if I drove home through Hot Springs, the roads would be much better that direction. It was very cold getting ready to hike. I decided to let Krumm hike off leash. Unlikely to be any bears out with these temps, and our trail is not a busy one. Well, it's more popular with backpackers than day hikers. And its 22 degrees out, so surely no one would be backpacking. We ended up seeing 7 backpackers today. OMG. These people are way hardier than me. The last one we saw was even wearing shorts - must have been a thru hiker lol.  I think it's a requirement.

Glen removed 2 down trees and worked on clearing water bars. I lopped low hanging branches - which happens whenever we get snow on our trail. The trees were covered with rime ice. It was very quiet and beautiful. We didn't make it to the summit, but got a lot of work done.

Chasing sticks I throw off trail

Too big for us, this one needs a sawyer

And this one needs a sawyer too

The sawyers removed 3 large trees in this section for us earlier this fall
