I originally wanted to hike in a popular area in Pisgah today. Then I decided better of it. It's the first day of a holiday weekend, and likely we wouldn't be able to find parking. So, we decided to work on a section of the MST that we haven't done. It's close to home, so convenient.

We decided we don't need to do this section again. It was an easy hike, and the trail was very well maintained. The elevation gain is minimal, and the tread was in really good shape. There were some downsides, however. The trail parallels the Blue Ridge Parkway, and we never were really out of earshot of it. We also had quite a bit of walking next to the parkway. And that included a number of bridge crossings. The sidewalks on the bridges are very narrow. Luckily Krummholz was really good about walking straight on them, but I kept him very close when cars approached us.

Hmm...the sign says bridge closed to pedestrians. But the MST goes over the bridge.
So, we went over the bridge. This is right near the start of the hike.

Crossing the French Broad River

Happy to be off the road and in the woods

Another bridge crossing. Followed by needing to walk next to the parkway,
because the trail is temporarily closed due to a construction area.

A sign at the end of our detour

It was a warm day, so we sat on the bridge and let Krummholz play in the water

When we hike, we usually stop and take photos to capture any trail maintenance issues, in case they haven't been reported yet.

More walking along the parkway
