We completed another AT section today! It's starting to feel like we're making a lot of progress in this area. We decided to hike from Spivey Gap to Nolichucky River. It's more downhill this way (I think around 3,800' descent) that the reverse (3,800' ascent). I'm in training to carry more weight in my backpack for more elevation, but I'm not ready for that much elevation gain quite yet. I was hoping our ascent would be closer to 2,000' today - it was smaller than expected. I did increase my pack weight to 15 lbs. Luckily all my joints are cooperating still. Nothing hurts.

We saw no thru hikers today. We saw no hikers at all, surprisingly. We did see a bunch of hikers milling around Uncle Johnny's hostel in the morning, but none on the trail. It was another cold windy day, where we'd warm up when out of the wind, and have cold hands and faces in the wind. I almost opted for a shorter hike but was glad we stuck with our original plan.

Nice hike with a few wildflowers. At the end of the hike there are views of the Nolichucky River and Erwin, TN. During most of the hike there are winter views of the surrounding mountains. We stopped at the No Business shelter and had a hot lunch.

A concrete sided shelter. How did they get the concrete blocks up here? The USFS built this shelter in 1963
