I took a much needed day off of work, and joined the CMC for 3 short hikes in Highlands, NC. The 3 hikes are part of the 100 Favorite Trails Challenge. I've found a dog walker for Krummholz, so that I can sometimes take all day hikes without him (the CMC doesn't allow dogs on their hikes). 

We had a long but beautiful drive to Highlands. The leaves are at peak here, and it was a pleasant morning leaf peeping while driving. Temps were in the 40's and it was foggy. One of our group quoted an Aesop fable, which summed it up perfectly: "One misty, moisty morning, when cloudy was the weather...."

We headed down hill first and stopped at various cascades and views of the upper, middle and lower falls. The combination of the falls, leaf color, and mist was magical.
