Continuing to work on redlining Map 144 in the Catskills. This hike was on overgrown trail. I believe we may have lost the trail once. In this section of the Catskills though, it is rare to see another hiker out.  We would have liked to have hiked a little further, but decided we might run out of daylight.

I'm working on improving my navigation skills, and since I am starting to pay attention to my surroundings more, today I noticed something new. It seems obvious now, but I never thought about it. We were hiking along, and there were private property signs along one side of the trail. I'm looking at my map, and I notice that we are hiking right along the border of private land and the Delaware Wild Forest. The Catskill maps show private land as white, and Catskill park state lands as green. The trails go through both, but when you cross into public lands, there is a DEC sign. I've noticed the DEC signs plenty of times, but I never made the association that it was at a park border, and that I could use this information to help tell where I am on the map. So obvious now that I'm paying attention!
