Directions: Hike southbound from Humpback Rocks Picnic Area to Reeds Gap
We were looking for a shorter hike today, so we jumped south of Shenandoah National Park to the George Washington and Jefferson National Forest. Our hike started out at the Humpback Rocks Picnic Area. Its a site with many individual picnic areas, with car parking for each one. We parked at the picnic area next to a .3 mile side trail that brings you to the AT. I think I managed to flash a couple of hikers when peeing at the start. This was going to be a recurring them during this trip, lol. Since today's hike was so short, we had more time to stop & enjoy some views. The hike was pretty rocky. We had been thinking that Virginia had easy smooth terrain. Hmmm. It wasn't Pennsylvania rocky, but our feet were feeling it. I really liked this hike - the views were great.
After our hike, we drove around Charlottesville, checking out the downtown outdoor mall area and the college. Then after a shower, we drove to Crozet, to see my college friend Betsy. It was so fun catching up with her and learning more about the area! A while ago, we also discovered that her father and Glen's father were friends. What a small world.
