I usually have a hiking mileage goal for each year. This year won't be crazy big - I've got a puppy who is still growing. So, I've decided 600 miles for 2019 is a reasonable goal. Averaging 50 miles per month. So I'm behind. As I often am at the beginning of the year. The combination of having a puppy who only does short hikes, having a dog going through chemo, having bronchitis, and very cold weather made for slow hiking months in January and February. Now I'm playing catch up. So, I've just finished January's 50 miles, lol. Better weather is on the way, and we are starting to add weekday hikes.

On Saturdays I have a family manners class with Krummholz. He does great working around other dogs. I'm so impressed with his attention for such a young pup. Today we started recalls in class. Of course he's a total rock star.

In the afternoon we headed over to Ward Pound Ridge with him. This is his longest hike yet. We're increasing his mileage gradually. We got lucky and saw no one hiking today. This park gets a lot of visitors on weekends, but we must have chosen the right trail to hike on today. As a result, we let him have some off leash time. We're starting to split his hikes up, so part of the time he wears a head halter, and part of the time he's off leash (assuming we have minimal chance of meeting other people on the trail). When Glen gets ahead of me, Krummholz ping pongs between us.
