Glen, Trek, and I headed to Harriman to hike a section we've never done before. We've hiked so much in Harriman - it's nice to find sections we haven't done yet. We were not fully prepared for winter hiking. We had started switching our packs to carry winter hiking gear, but not enough. I had not yet found good winter hiking boots. I have been wearing my Lowa Renegades, but they get soaked very easily. I realize I shouldn't have chosen this trail to do in the winter with my boots - when I looked at the map, the trail passes by swamps. That means the trails are likely to be waterlogged, which they were. Sometimes we couldn't get around the water and just had to hike through it. My socks quickly became soaked, and my feet were cold and wet. In addition, I only had 1 emergency booty I was carrying for Trek. The snow was icy and the ice crystals were bothering his legs. He was starting to get cut up from the icy snow. We ended up cutting this hike short. When we reached Woodtown Road (a woods road) on the TMI trail, we turned around and retraced our steps back to the beginning.
