We woke up to a grey, misty, chilly morning, so we decided to drive to Newport to visit their aquarium. Our favorite part was watching the otters, seals, and sea lions. From there we went to Café Mundo in Newport for lunch. It was a funky restaurant with good food. I had a blackberry crisp for dessert. We encountered a ton of blackberries during our coastal stay, so I'm now going to think about Oregon whenever I eat them.
We left our car where it was and started walking on the beach. After a while, we ended up by a dock where you could overlook the basking sea lions. We spent a long time just sitting there and watching them. They all have such interesting personalities - many of them seemed cantankerous. We hiked under a bridge - and we found tons and tons of blackberry bushes. We grabbed some blackberries to snack on. We came across a woman filling a bucket with them. When I think about how expensive blackberries are in the grocery store.....here you can pick the same amount in 30 seconds.
It was time for dinner, so we decided to walk into town to the food coop and pick up some food. We then walked back to our car. After eating our dinner at the hotel, we drove north of our hotel in Lincoln City to watch the sunset over the Pacific Ocean - always a treat. There were many others on the beach doing the same thing. A good end to the day.
