We have always wanted to go watch the fireworks from on top of a mountain. This weekend has been too hot to hike, and last weekend was rainy. So we were both eager to get out. We decided to hike up our local mini mountain to see if we could see any fireworks. Note that night hiking is not allowed at our local mini mountain. We drove up, expecting to see other cars at the trailhead. Doesn't everyone else have the same idea? We were the only ones there. We haven't done much night hiking before - we did it in Harriman once (not on purpose), and we've actually hiked down our mini mountain in fading light a few times (it's a nice sunset hike). We are very familiar with this trail though, so we felt comfortable to hike it at night. We took the shorter route to the summit. We could see 3 sets of fireworks from the summit, but all quite far away. We continued past the summit to another view point, where we could see another 2 sets of fireworks, a little bit closer. So our mini mountain doesn't have the best firework views, at least tonight, but it was a fun date night. Maybe next time we'll try to see if there is a Harriman campsite near the Hudson River where we could watch the fireworks from.
