This is our second trip this month to do pre-spring cleaning on our adopted trail section. Last week we cleared a mile of trail. Glen was optimistic that we'd finish clearing our section today. Well, we only cleared another mile. We spent the day lopping and sawing rhododendrons. We only saw one other person the whole day. He was a backpacker, so we asked him if he was a thru hiker, but he wasn't. He was thankful for our work - after I saw him picking his way through a tricky rhododendron blow down we hadn't got to yet. We think our remaining couple of miles have fewer rhododendrons, so clearing should go faster.

Krummholz was a trail dog extraordinaire today. He packed out a small bottle of whiskey we found, as well as a plastic trash bag full of some group's backpacking meals trash. Krummholz likes to dig, especially in holes, so I tried to teach him to clear water bars with limited success.

On the way back, we took a woods road back in place of the last mile of trail. When trail crews work on our section, they drive up the woods road, which puts them higher up in the section. I wanted to check how much clearing the road needed to get vehicles up. It will need clearing, so if we finish clearing our section before the next trail crew visits, we might work on clearing the woods road as well.
