Today we were up for a challenge and decided to head to the Catskills. We've done all of these mountains before, some of them more than once, but we hadn't done all 3 in one hike. We've gotten stronger since we originally tackled these. This hike makes a nice loop, and hits Black Dome twice.

The climb up to Blackhead goes steadily up, and then is steep near the end. We both remembered our failed first winter attempt at Blackhead. We only had microspikes, and gave up very close to the summit, because it just got too dangerous. We had an even tougher time descending. Ugh.

Today however, we were huffing & puffing going up Blackhead, but it was so much easier than in the winter. Our last few Catskill hikes have been bushwhacks, so doing a trailed Catskill hike felt like a treat. After doing Blackhead, we found Black Dome and Thomas Cole much easier. The ascents are much shorter. We did get some good views today, but its still a little early for leaf peeping this year. There were quite a few people out hiking - the weather was perfect. We stopped and talked to another woman working on her 3500 footer list, who was hiking with her very cute cattle dog mix I assume.
