Hike description:
Moderate hike. The only part that felt steep to me was the descent down to the Taconic. Again, I brought no trekking poles due to having 2 dogs. This was a mistake - my knees aren't tolerating the steep declines without poles. I ended up hiking the last 5 miles with knee pain. I recognized part of this hike as one of the first snowshoe hikes we had done - at Fahnestock Winter Park - paid to snowshoe on groomed trails - which included the AT. Remembered that portion was pretty icy & steep in the winter. Some car noise on this hike at both ends. The hike never gets really close to Canopus Lake - though this didn't stop one of our dogs from taking off to go for a quick swim.
