Indian Hill Loop Trail - Sterling Forest

May 12, 2013
Distance: 3.9 miles
Time: 2 hours
Map: Sterling Forest Trails Map
Parking: Parking lot at end of dirt road off of Orange Turnpike. Plenty of space. On a beautiful day,  we were the only ones there.
Restrooms: Porta a potty in parking lot
Post hike dinner: none
Directions: Indian Hill Loop Trail, Sterling Forest
Year to date miles: 97.4

We both liked this hike. It was "Trek approved" because it had a pond. The hike also has views, many stone walls (some, the widest I've seen), and woods roads.

Note: A sign said hunting by permit is allowed December-February and May! No one else was parked there,  so we didn't worry too much about coming across hunters, but do bring blaze orange if hiking in May just in case! The sign also said that parking was by permit only, but I'm guessing that really is for hunters not hikers?

Sign off of Orange Turnpike for parking area.

The hike starts next to the kiosk

The blazes vary between white stripes on yellow and just plain yellow.

The first view

Following both the red and yellow trails.

Some cairns in the rocky areas

Warbler trail blazes! The pond is just a short distance off the side trail - easily visible from the yellow trail.

One happy dog!

Walking along a woods road

The widest stone walls I've seen. This is the width of them.

The hike ends at this gate in the parking area.
