Green Pond/Boston Mine Shorter Loop from Route 106

December 8, 2012

Distance: 2.8 miles
Time: 1 hour 42 minutes
Map: Harriman - Bear Mountain Trails (north map)
Parking: In small dirt lot off of Route 106.
Restrooms: None
Post hike dinner: Whole Foods, White Plains, NY
Directions: Green Pond/Boston Mine Shorter Loop

Notes:
No street crossings, but the beginning/end of the hike parallel Route 106 for about 5 minutes. This is a short, easy hike - good when you don't have a lot of time. Some rock scrambling around the pond, but the rest of the hike is flat, often with wide trails. This hike goes around Green Pond, which is pretty especially in the fall, but not a dog swimming area (too many reeds around the edge).

Year to date miles: 384.2

White Bar Trail. Dogs way ahead as usual. Wheeeee!
The Nurian and White Bar Trail join each other, before the Nurian Trail leaves to the left
Nurian Trail crossing Island Pond Road (woods road)
Entrance to Boston Mine
Mine shaft filled with water
Green Pond - dogs are already in the water
Beaver activity
View of the pond. This area has nice color in the fall.
